Global Campaign | Sprite

Sprite Your Thirst billboard

Overview

I played a key role in conceptualising ideas, bringing them to life, and coordinating the campaign across multiple global territories, across numerous channels, over the course of a multi-part 18-month burst. As the senior art director in the team, I oversaw the animatics during the concept testing phase, was involved in director selection, casting, wardrobe and set design during pre-production, and oversaw the edit, grade and CG editing and animation during the post-production process.

'Challenge' 45"

Our hot and thirsty protagonist finds himself facing a pretentious posse. They challenge him to a dance battle for the ultimate prize: the last Sprite in the cooler.

The tension rises, and the posse's leader busts his flashy moves, but our hero is unphased and surprises everyone when he reveals he's not interested in battling at all: he grabs the Sprite and takes a refreshing sip. When it comes to satisfying your cravings, you don't need to jump through hoops. You just need to know how to Sprite Your Thirst.

'Monster' 45"

On a blistering hot day, our protagonist faces a dire situation – he's run out of Sprite! Determined to satisfy his thirst, he goes on a mission to restock.

As he leaves his apartment, chaos unfolds around him. People flee in fear, but our hero remains focused on his goal. He heads straight for a Sprite vending machine.

At the machine, he glances up and notices the monster causing the pandemonium. When it demands his precious Sprite, he refuses. Nothing can get between his thirst and the solution: an ice cold Sprite.

'Monster' 30"

We shot the commercial multiple times over the course of 3 days, switching between cast members and Sprite packs, to cater to the multiple regions that would be using copies of the ad adapted to their territories and edit length requirements.

'Fashion' 15"

The next aspect of the campaign was a series of video shorts for social media platforms. We shot teens as they expressed themselves with art, fashion, music, cooking and sport.

'Art' 15"

With their thirst for self-expression comes the desire to quench it with a Sprite. With each delicious sip, they not only refresh themselves, but also ignite their creativity. We shot each interest category with different cast memebers and different Sprite packs, depending on the region it was required for.

'Music' 15"

The director, Justine Calverley, presented us with a match-cut technique that we loved, which involved a complex rig to keep the actors' bodies still so they could drink a Sprite and paint, play, take a pic, cook or bounce a ball at the same time.

Cinemagraphs

Photographers Guy Aroch and Anna Palma shot a bank of images for the campaign in New York. Unfortunately I wasn't able to attend the shoot, but I was responsible for image selection, overseeing the retouching of images for out-of-home and digital, and overseeing the animation of the cinemagraphs for 3 different regions.
